Atlas Notes

Atlas Notes comes from a line in my book notes that I keep returning to: learning about the world is an obligation, and a lifetime pursuit. The app is an attempt to make that pursuit navigable — a place where what you learn accumulates into something you can see.

It is a notes application for learning about history, places and ideas, built together with my father. Notes carry structured metadata — dates, countries, a type, tags — and the app links related notes and plots them across map and timeline views.

AI assists at the edges: it suggests titles, dates, countries and tags, surfaces related notes, proposes openly-licensed images, and offers cited context on demand. It is deliberately locked out of the writing itself — AI text cannot be pasted into a note’s body, and highlighting AI context creates a new note with a locked source excerpt and an empty body for the author to fill.

Built in React and TypeScript with an Express backend; a working private prototype.
